How QR Labels Keep Inventory and Molds Within Reach

A studio record is most useful when you can reach it where the work happens. During receiving, batch preparation, cleanup, packing, or show preparation, a material container or mold may be directly in front of you while the matching record is several screens away.

Maker Studio AI QR labels connect a physical inventory item or mold to its own authenticated studio record. Print a label, place it where it helps your workflow, and scan it to open the matching record on your phone or computer. The goal is simple: less searching, fewer lookups from memory, and a faster path back to the information you already maintain.

Why QR labels were built

Inventory and molds are physical tools. They move from shelves to worktables, batch stations, drying racks, workshop bins, and packing areas. Yet details such as quantity, unit, supplier, cost history, recipe usage, mold dimensions, notes, or related records live in your studio system.

A QR label bridges that gap. It gives a container or mold a scannable door into its own record without putting the record details on the label itself. This is especially useful when your hands are busy, when several similar materials are stored together, or when a helper needs to find the right record quickly.

What a Maker Studio AI QR label does

Each label contains a link to one specific inventory item or mold record in Maker Studio AI. When a maker scans the label while signed in, Maker Studio AI opens the appropriate page and briefly highlights the matching record.

The QR code does not print your quantity, cost, recipe formula, supplier history, or other private record details in the code. It holds a route back to the app. The data remains behind your usual Maker Studio AI sign-in.

QR labels support several common maker workflows:

A QR label does not replace normal recordkeeping. It simply shortens the trip from the physical item to the digital record.

How to print inventory QR labels

  1. Sign in to Maker Studio AI and open Inventory.
  2. Select the inventory items you want to label using the checkboxes in the list.
  3. Use Print QR sheet (N) in the selected-items toolbar. The number reflects the count of selected items.
  4. Review the browser print preview. The sheet uses an Avery-style layout with 3 columns and 10 rows, designed for 2.625 inch by 1 inch labels.
  5. Print the sheet, or choose Save as PDF for a no-paper test before committing labels to stock containers.

For a first test, select only one item. The action reads Print QR sheet (1) and the print preview contains one label. This is a simple way to confirm your printer scale and label stock before printing a larger set.

How to print mold QR labels

  1. Open Equipment and select the Molds tab.
  2. Use Print QR label on an individual mold when you need one label.
  3. To print several at once, select the molds using their checkboxes and choose Print QR sheet (N).
  4. Review the same Avery-style browser print preview, then print or save it as a PDF.

Choose label placement that stays visible and practical. A mold label may work best on a storage bin, sleeve, or handle area instead of a surface that becomes hot, wet, or frequently washed. A container label is often easiest to scan when placed consistently near the item name.

How scanning works

Scan a printed label with your phones camera or a QR scanner. The camera opens the Maker Studio AI link encoded in the label.

Use production labels from the live custom-domain version of Maker Studio AI. That ensures the QR code points to the member-facing studio site rather than a temporary preview environment.

A note about access and privacy

A scanned label is not a bypass around account access. The destination is an authenticated app route, and the underlying item or mold remains scoped to the signed-in makers own records. Someone who is not signed in is sent through the normal sign-in flow before the app opens the destination.

This means you can use QR labels in a shared workspace without placing private inventory or equipment data in the printed code.

Troubleshooting a first test

What you see What to check
The scan opens the sign-in screen Sign in through that screen. The normal flow should return you to the record after verification.
You reach the Dashboard instead of a record Start from a newly scanned inventory or mold label and use the sign-in action that follows the scan. A generic sign-in link has no record destination to restore.
The label is difficult to scan Check print scale, contrast, and whether the code was cropped. Saving the print preview as PDF is a useful test.
The wrong record opens Reprint from the selected item or mold and replace the old physical label.

Build a simple labeling habit

Start with the items you touch most: high-use oils and butters, frequently used additives, and your core molds. Print a small sheet, test one label with your phone, and then add labels gradually as you organize your studio.

The value is not in labeling everything at once. It is in making the next record you need easier to reach at the moment you need it.
